Job Tittle: UG Maintenance Foreman
Position Description
North Mara Gold Mine Limited is seeking to recruit UG Maintenance Foreman to join and grow their team. You will be expected to align to the Barrick DNA and to operate within our mining assets with our best people teams. You will contribute in a safe and cost-effective manner to achieve targets in accordance with Mine Safety Standards, Policies and Procedures and ensure daily targets are met.
Responsibilities
- Ensure safety of all employees and contractors working in operating unit or department by driving continuous improvement towards a true safety culture
- Closely apply and follow-up all SAP Process to manage notifications, work orders preparation and closing, parts ordering, job history recording and ensure work order closed after work completion with updated report and attachments
- Fluent with Inventory and Materials Management concepts, such as inventory control and analysis, material lead times, cost analysis, usage analysis
- Develops and implements standard work procedures to continually improve overall team productivity
- Responsible for safe work practices
- Be able to make decisions based on knowledge and experience
- Commissioning duties for the Mechanical discipline
- Develop and maintain reporting procedures for maintenance, planning and cost reporting.
- Manage workshop facilities, ensuring excellent housekeeping and that tooling is secured, maintained and replaced as required.
- Support the UG Mobile Fleet Superintendent in budgeting and control of maintenance costs. Implement and monitor systems and take corrective action where necessary to ensure that consumable usage and costs remain favorable to budget.
- Support the UG Mobile Fleet Superintendent in development of a long-term maintenance plan, which includes all identified routine, non-routine and probable maintenance work, and capital required to ensure safe and effective performance of the Underground Maintenance on a yearly basis and for Life of Mine.
- Provide input into development of maintenance training packages.
- Provide ongoing training, mentoring and employee performance management, to develop and maintain a safe, competent and results orientated Underground Maintenance team, and to ensure that employees gain new skills and achieve their full potential.
- Develop and implement Safe Work Procedures and other maintenance procedures. Assist in training of these procedures and ensure they are adhered to.
- Take appropriate action (initiate disciplinary warnings) when substandard performance or behavior of employees is observed.
- Be proactive in all aspects of Underground Maintenance security to prevent and eliminate theft and fraud.
- Perform any other duty that may be assigned by superior.
Experience and Competencies needed
- At least five (5) years working experience in Underground Maintenance Operation
- A relevant trade qualification in Mechanical Engineering or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Experience in systematic coaching and training of employees is essential.
- Experience with computerized maintenance systems, e.g. SAP, is essential
- Reliable, trustworthy and be able to cope with pressure.
- Vast experience in maintenance of Sandvik underground equipment including Drills, Trucks and loaders.
- Experience in maintenance of underground auxiliary equipment including but not limited to CAT Integrated Tool Carriers, Normet Agi’s & Spraymec, Macleans EC3 units.
- Excellent knowledge of standards, methods and maintenance procedures of the job.
- Well-developed oral and written communication skills as well as the ability to interact with People of diverse cultures and levels.
- Ability to work for long hours.
- Medical fitness for the position and environment.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Valid Tanzanian driver’s license and proficiency in driving light vehicles

Responsibilities
- Ensure total compliance/adherence to all Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Policies, as well as other policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Follow work schedule to maximize efficiency, taking into consideration roles and responsibilities cooperation with other team members.
- Respond to incidents, including natural disasters (Fire, Underground and Water Rescue) and assess the situation to determine the level of response required and Assist with any other accident/incident onsite and offsite.
- Identify all unsafe acts, situations and hazards within ERT training and real emergency
- 100% to all fire inspection and rescue, i.e. Ensure fire extinguishers are properly hanged, expiry monitored, safety pins are fixed, and seals are not broken
- Contribute and support on the weekly training
- To make sure there is no any hazards on the airstrip to make sure the land and takeoff happen on time acceding to the timetable
- Training of Emergency Response team members
- Lead the Emergency Response team to the rescue event
- Provide basic training related to Evacuation Plan, emergency exits, PPEs to employees, contract workers and suppliers
- Act as duty officer as part of a 24-hour duty system, responding to emergency situations as they arise
- Perform related duties as may be assigned from time to time by supervisor
Qualification requirements
- Fire Warden Rescue training from recognized institute in Tanzania,
- Rescue Certificate III (BG 4, Fire Rescue, Rope Rescue and Road Crash),
- Shore Water Rescue from a recognized Institution,
- Evidence on heat tolerance and work load training for consecutive three (3) years,
- First Aid (Level 1-3),
- Rope Rescue, Vehicle Rescue, Hazmat, SCBA, and Fire Fighting,
- Environmental Policy Awareness,
- Mines Health & Safety Act Awareness,
Experience and Competencies needed
- 3-5 years’ experience in Underground and Open Pit Mine,
- Tanzania Driving license,

Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is seeking to recruit HD Mechanic to join our team. The successful candidate for this position is expected to align to the Barrick DNA and drive a change within his/her team and the business and on a practical note will ensure activities in the Engineering department are effectively planned and undertaken in a safe and cost-effective manner to achieve targets in accordance to BGML Mining Safety Standards, Policies and Procedures.
Reporting to HME Supervisor
Duration: Permanent
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure safe work practices, i.e., attending compulsory safety courses and meetings, use of required PPE, incident/accident reporting, and ensuring total adherence to all Safety, Occupational Health, and Environmental Policies, as well as other relevant policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Follow all maintenance procedures and ensure the completion of mechanical activities according to standard without causing any further damage to any component/system/equipment.
- Ensure equipment isolation, adhere to working at height and confined space standards/ procedures, and conduct pre-start checks/ inspections.
- Carry out mechanical repair and preventative maintenance to maintain Plant & Mobile equipment safely and efficiently to achieve production and cost targets.
- Carry out troubleshooting, fault finding, and corrective maintenance to solve unplanned equipment unavailability events.
- Ensure that maintenance practices result in maximum equipment availability.
- Utilize work instructions to determine job requirements, including job sheets, quality, quantity of materials/ resources, etc.
- Perform PM inspection according to the maintenance requirements and ensure preventive maintenance compliance.
- Conduct Mobile and Plant equipment upgrades/modifications as required.
- Removal of the machine components and replacement.
- Provide accurate and timely feedback to the First Line Leader on conditions that may affect the functionality of the equipment.
- Ensure First Line Leaders and all stakeholders are informed of equipment availability status.
- Follow up on outstanding maintenance/ repairs.
- Complete shift handover process.
- Actively participate in training activities to gain new skills and develop their full potential.
- Under the direction of the First Line Leader, provide appropriate on-the-job training and coaching to less experienced personnel.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Ordinary secondary education (Form IV)
- Trade-certified Fitter, FTC or IMTT
- Exposure to working with automation of underground mechanized mining equipment
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- A valid Tanzanian Driving Licence.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 3 years working on Sandvik mechanized mining equipment.
SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
- Excellent communication in English, both writing and verbal
- Must have proven experience working as part of a high-speed mechanized jumbo development maintenance team with a sound understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems on mobile machinery.
- The ability to diagnose faults and rectify them in a time-efficient manner is critical
- The ability to interpolates hydraulic schematics and basic Electrical circuit.
- Good Communication Skills, English & Swahili
- Exposure to the industry’s best preventative maintenance regimes is imperative to ensure machinery and equipment are always maintained to the high level of availability.
