Position Description

Location: worldwide
Office of Income Security
Fixed-term agreement: six months
Level: UK Depending on the location and type of the contract, grade E or equivalent

Financial, food, and energy crises worldwide

• Elderly people in some of the most vulnerable nations in the world are suffering horrendously as a result of the global food, fuel, and financial crisis. The Russian invasion of Ukraine has intensified the situation, but it also builds on the pandemic's continuing effects, the poverty levels that already existed, and the more damaging effects of climate change, such as droughts, floods, and resource-related violence.
• HelpAge International is gathering information on how this issue is affecting older adults in ten different nations. We are also drawing from our experience with crises that have occurred since 1983 in places like South Sudan, Sri Lanka, and Yemen, which provides insight into what might occur if a suitable reaction, is not instantly mounted.
• It is crucial to raise the alarm right away so that major players in the world's food, energy, and financial systems can address the problems brought up by senior citizens and incorporate them into their response strategies.
• For a position supporting our response to this crisis, we are now looking for a driven, qualified, and experienced individual. We are searching for talent that enjoys working collaboratively with others—both within and outside of HelpAge International—and who can work quickly and across boundaries.

You'll have these qualities:

• Demonstrated skills and experience influencing policy, planning, and execution decision-makers
• Knowledge of international development and humanitarian policy frameworks.
• Comfortable with complicated challenges and the capacity to translate them into clear and actionable demands for decision-makers. Strong grasp of global institutional frameworks and how they may be traversed to seek out strategic possibilities that drive change.
• Strong advocacy, persuasion, and communication abilities
• Proficient English communication skills, both written and spoken.
• A proven capacity for cooperating and being dependable with colleagues in a way that promotes experimentation, learning, and agency while building strong bonds with diverse terms.

Desirable:

• Knowledge and expertise in robust food systems; expertise in humanitarian interventions.
