Njombe

our identity;

  • A non-profit group called BRiTEN (Building Rural Incomes Through Entrepreneurship) works to change rural communities' perspectives so that they begin to see their livelihoods as extending beyond just meeting their families' basic needs and becoming competitive advantage generators. Understanding the market system and how to effect large-scale systemic change by tackling the root causes with a dedication to sustainability are the pillars of our strategy. By securing their inclusion into value chains and generating efficiencies for everyone, our main objective with agricultural interventions is to raise rural smallholder farmers' incomes and improve their quality of life.
  • additional market players. We want to make sure that women, men, young men, and young women are all included in the value chains.

The Initiative

Project Goals and Pilot Phase Results

  • Improved post-harvest management, access to and acceptance of improved seed varieties, and farmer group aggregation are all goals of the project.
  • Systemic changes anticipated:
  • Farm level changes: enhanced produce quality that will fetch a good price will increase smallholder competitiveness and inclusion into the bean value chain.
  • Market-level changes: stronger contractual connections between producers and the private sector as a result of improved value chain coordination, which increases confidence.
  • In order to establish sustainable and scalable methods for job creation and income growth, the project will critically address difficulties surrounding coordination and market access segments of the value chain:

Outcome 1: Smallholder farmers in the Njombe and Ruvuma regions have access to improved bean seed varieties economically.

Outcome 2: In the Njombe and Ruvuma regions, smallholder women, men, and youth farmers buy improved bean varieties through the available commercial channels.

Outcome 3: Smallholder farmers in the Njombe and Ruvuma regions enhance their bean farming agronomic methods.

Outcome 4: Farmer groups take more coordinated action on behalf of their members (smallholder women, men and youth farmers)

Outcome 5: Smallholder farmers' market shares of common beans grow among men, women, and young people.

According to our co-facilitator and partner, there is a much better possibility of producing a long-lasting pro-poor impact if large-scale systemic change is enabled and targeted at market systems that are important for the productive poor and marginalized women and youth. The partners support each other in achieving the objective of funding governments in Tanzania that aims to boost incomes and employment possibilities for underprivileged women, men, and young people.

In order to provide smallholder farmers with dependable, high-quality agro inputs and access to extension support, the Project will support the formation of new market systems. This will, in turn, raise production quantities, improve product quality, and link farmers to markets.
