A Tanzanian passenger plane has crashed into Lake Victoria as it attempted to land in the lakeside town of Bukoba, killing at least 19 people.
The police commander in the region has confirmed the crash of the plane, and has told the BBC that the rescue is ongoing and he will provide detailed information later.

The police have confirmed the occurrence of the accident. Firefighters and rescuers as well as police and local fishermen are at the scene doing rescue operations.
The authorities have not yet confirmed how many passengers were on the plane and how many have been rescued so far, but according to local media reports, the plane that was coming from Mwanza to Bukoba had 49 passengers and 23 have been rescued so far.
The BBC has spoken to a witness of the incident, who was waiting for a flight from Bukoba airport. "About fifteen or twenty minutes have passed, the Precision Air plane that came from Dar es Salaam-Mwanza-Bukoba, was about to land , I have seen it fall and enter Lake Victoria, and I see that there are already firefighters, police and passengers trying their best to rescue them," says Abdul Nuri.
