Position Description

The Position

  • The Driver offers dependable and secure transportation to visitors, the Representative, the Deputy Representative, and senior UN officials.
  • The operations manager or operations specialist will be your direct report.

Job Objective:

  • Your primary duty will be to provide dependable and secure driving services while upholding the greatest levels of discretion and integrity. You will also have a strong sense of accountability and outstanding protocol and security expertise. You will exhibit a client-centered mindset, consideration for others, tact, and the capacity to interact with those from various national and cultural backgrounds.

You would be in charge of:

  • delivering and collecting mail and other paperwork, meeting official guests and employees at the airport, arranging visa and customs formalities as necessary, and driving office cars for the transportation of UNFPA staff, officials, and visitors.
  • maintaining awareness of security, safety, and traffic conditions to ensure a timely and safe arrival for meetings;
  • managing all facets of car maintenance, performing small fixes and cleaning, and scheduling larger fixes and services to keep the vehicle in good working order; keeping daily vehicle logs, helping to create maintenance plans and history reports for vehicles,
  • keeping up with insurance and tax requirements;
  • translating for official travelers when necessary in the native tongue;
  • guiding and training young drivers as necessary;
  • helping CO personnel as needed with general administrative tasks

Competencies and Experience:

Education:

  • finished their secondary education.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license qualifies.
  • Having a clean driving record and three years of experience working as a driver for an international organization, embassy, or UN system.
  • Defensive driving techniques, familiarity with local roads and circumstances, and knowledge of driving laws and regulations.
  • knowledge of simple auto repairs.

Languages:

  • basic understanding of the duty station's official UN language.
