WHAT THE PROJECT IS
- By enhancing ecosystem services in drought-prone areas of Tanzania, the New Approaches to upscale resilience and ecosystem-based adaptation project seeks to strengthen the resilience of communities, particularly the most marginalized individuals. In order to support the restoration of ecosystem services and improve Tanzania's legal and development policy framework, the project will address social vulnerabilities like food insecurity, resource access, water use conflict, human wildlife conflict, pastoralist migration, and land-use conflicts. It will also address a key issue that affects the restoration of ecosystem services and support strengthening ecosystems that provide essential services to communities to enhance quality of life. IUCN provided funding for the project through CARE Nederland.
JOB SUMMARY
- The Senior Project Manager (SPM) will provide overall leadership and coordination to guarantee that the Project's goals fall within his or her purview. Increased integration of gender-sensitive ecosystem-based adaptation approaches into pertinent adaptation-related policies and plans will be one of the two project outcomes, along with an improved enabling environment to support increased funding for gender-sensitive ecosystem-based adaptation approaches in Simanjiro, Kiteto, Chemba, Same, and Mufindi districts. The post will be headquartered in Dar es Salaam and report to the program director.
RELEVANT ACTIVITIES
- In accordance with cutting-edge methods, technical standards, adaptive management techniques, CARE priorities, and program principles, supervise the coordinated planning (of activities and budgets) and execution of the project.
- Create teamwork-based work procedures, and ensure that performance goals are met on schedule by conserving project resources and providing efficient feedback between monitoring and decision-making.
- Establish and maintain productive working relationships with all partners to guarantee that the implementation plan is carried out consistently and to a high standard.
- Encourage a strong partnership team among partners by assisting in the settlement of technical issues.
- Work together with a range of outside technical partners and stakeholders to incorporate their skills with pertinent project elements.
- Ensure that project resources are used effectively, that international standards are followed, and that CARE policies and procedures are followed as well as the norms and regulations of the donors.
- Facilitate thorough implementation plans for CARE's operational areas, and collaborate closely with project partners to make sure their implementation plans are adequate and complete.
- Promote efforts for rights-based programming, policy advocacy, and gender equality
- In collaboration with the Finance and Operations Teams, assist with the financial management of project activities.
- Establish and maintain close relationships with the key project participants, such as the Tanzanian government, local authorities, and others.
.QUALIFICATIONS (KNOW-HOW)
- Master's degree in natural resource management, conservation ecology and management, forestry, environmental studies, or climate change, or an equivalent combination of training and relevant professional experience.
- strong technical background in climate change, resilience, and adaptation, and natural resource management
- a minimum of five years of management experience, as well as familiarity with the tight guidelines and procedures that international NGOs must follow when handling donors.
- Ability to establish and maintain connections with local authorities, donors, stakeholders in other projects sponsored by donors, local organizations, and partners.
- English proficiency, both spoken and written.
- the ability to travel as necessary to the project's implementation locations.
